Semuc Champey Pool and Kanbah Cave Tour Q185:
This tour will cover the cost of your transportation to and from the park, as well as all entrance fees. It will also provide you with a Fun, knowledgeable, bilingual tour guide.
This tour begins with a visit to the K’anba Caves. This area is primarily limestone and is a cavers paradise with thousands of unmapped miles of cave to explore. The one on our tour is open to the Public and is the “wet” cave, so aptly named because you get to crawl, climb, and even swim through all the while holding a candle. You may ask how do you swim holding a candle? Answer: Very carefully. Swimming through this cave will make you feel like a first-time explorer and the candles create a lovely ambiance. Once you enter the cave you will find your self climbing rope ladders, jumping into pools, and at one point going down a small waterfall into the abyss on the other side. Once we have finished our cave tour we will walk down along the river to the Extension Bridge where we will take a short break and allow those that are adventuresome enough to jump the 15 meters off the bridge into the Cahabon River. From there we continue a short walk to the entrance of the National Park of Semuc Champey, which is essentially an area of pristine mountainous forest where the river cascades through a series of crystal clear and surprisingly warm emerald green pools.
Once in the park we will head off on a STIFF uphill 1.5 km climb which will take you to the Viewing Platform where you can snap some breathtaking aerial shots of the pools and the surrounding Mountain range. The color of the water changes during the year depending on the season, sun and other natural factors, making for unique picture-taking opportunities If however you are NOT up for this strenuous hike you can take the much lower route (basically a flat 7 minute walk) directly to the pools where you can relax and wait for the rest of group to catch up to you. Once you have arrived at the pools this would be a good time to relax and enjoy your packed lunches. This is a Full Day excursion.
